Production Projections

The table below shows DTI's latest projections of UKCS oil, NGL and gas production for the period 2004-2009. They are based on detailed field-by-field data provided by all operators but have been adjusted to reflect experience of actual production compared to company expectations.

Production of oil from the UKCS is expected to continue to decline across the current forecast period. Output from the large Buzzard field is expected to support aggregate production between 2005 and 2007, after which the profile resumes its decline. The projections shown here are presented as a range of possible outcomes, because the pace of the decline in production is dependent on a number of different factors, including the level of investment, the success of further exploration and the use of secondary recovery techniques on mature fields. The projection for gas production relates to UKCS production available for sale. The rate of decline in gas production is expected to moderate between 2005 and 2007 before resuming a more rapid fall from 2008. The timing and extent of the decline remains uncertain and is subject to a range of factors, including investment decisions and success in exploration.
